In July 2025, a new project was launched in Bukovina to promote the development of pediatric neurosurgery in the cross-border region

The project was made possible through a partnership between the Municipal Children’s Clinical Hospital, the Bukovina Center for Reconstruction and Development, and the Suceava County Council, as well as with the support of associated partners: Bukovina State Medical University and the Suceava Emergency Hospital.

In July 2025, implementation of the project began, funded under the INTERREG NEXT Romania–Ukraine 2021–2027 Program.

The project budget is 1,264,770.58 euros, of which 1,138,293.50 euros are funded by the European Union, representing 90% of the total project cost.

The main objective of the project is to improve the accessibility and quality of emergency neurosurgical care for children in the Chernivtsi region (Ukraine) and Suceava County (Romania).

The project offers a comprehensive approach, including an analysis of the challenges and prospects for the development of pediatric neurosurgery in the target cross-border region, the purchase of equipment for the City Children’s Clinical Hospital (Chernivtsi, Ukraine) and the Suceava Emergency Hospital (Suceava, Romania), improving the skills of pediatric neurosurgeons in the cross-border region, and establishing a pediatric neurosurgery training center in Chernivtsi based at the Lead Partner’s hospital.
